A conference with 4 lectures to give notoriety to the figure of Florence Nightingale (12/05/1820 - 13/08/1910), chosen as a mathematician of the course 2020-2021 of Facultat de Matemàtiques i Estadística UPC (FME), who was a nurse, statistician and British social reformer, considered the mother of modern nursing and the creator of her first conceptual model. She was the first woman to be admitted to the British Royal Statistical Society and was also elected an honorary member of the American Statistical Association.

The FME wants to delve into the statistical side of Florence Nightingale and its significance within this area of knowledge and, given the current circumstances of health crisis, what are the interactions between the two facets (nursing and statistics ) in which Florence Nigthingale excelled.

The day will take place on May 12, 2021, a date with double relevance: on the one hand it is the 201st anniversary of the birth of Nightingale and on the other, the International Day of Women Mathematics, on the occasion of the Maryam Mirzakhani's Birthday. The duration will be all morning, from 9 am to 2 pm (4 presentations + participation forum) and will be face-to-face activity - hybrid (with online broadcast via YouTube channel FME).
