On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of her birth, the Gran Sasso Science Institute in collaboration with the University of L’Aquila dedicate an afternoon in honor of Olga Ladyzhenskaya, an outstanding Russian mathematician and a woman ahead of her time. The event is primarily addressed to Master and PhD students as well as postdocs and researchers, however all interested people are welcome to join.
Together with Cristiana De Filippis, a brilliant young mathematician from the University of Parma, we will explore one of the many remarkable contributions of Olga Ladyzenskaja to modern mathematics, in a field known as "calculus of variations". After a brief overview of the main contributions of Ladyzenskaja in this field, Cristiana will present her current research highlighting the connections with Olga’s results, testifying a mathematical legacy which goes beyond time.
A 30 minute movie projection will follow, on the life of Olga Ladyzhenskaya produced and directed by Ekaterina Eremenko.
We are happy to conclude the event with an informal social moment enjoying together an open-air happy hour.
Organized by Giulia Basti, Serena Cenatiempo and Ourania Giannopoulou of the Math Area of the Gran Sasso Science Institute and by Alessia Nota, Barbara Nelli and Emanuela Radici of the University of L’Aquila
