To celebrate Women in Mathematics Day, we would like to organise seminar with female academics presenting their research, Q&A panel discussions about their career pathways and some hands-on activities.

The major aim of the event: This engagement session will help beating the maths anxiety among women to pursue the career in mathematical sciences by providing specific examples of successful careers of our female academics. Moreover, the research component presented at this event by our female staff will assist to raise awareness, spark interest, and promote the essential role of women in driving mathematical innovation and discovery.

Date/place: May 15, Wednesday 12 noon to 1.30 pm in VG10. 

Academic Week 10 of Semester 1. The idea is to embed Woman in Maths Day into regular well-advertised BMath meet up session.  

 All genders are welcome including trans- and gender-diverse people. 

 Program of the event:

Role models will follow the Gaddie pitch approach: "HOW-WHAT-IN FACT" in their presentations to allow maximum engagement in a short period of time. 

Presentation on recent research discoveries and career development pathway followed by questions from the audience by Professor in Applied Mathematics Natalie Thamwattana (15 minutes including questions).

Presentation on recent research discoveries and career development pathway followed by questions from the audience by Associate Professor in Applied Mathematics Elena Levchenko (15 minutes including questions).

Presentation on recent research discoveries and career development pathway followed by questions from the audience by Lecturer in Data Science and Optimisation Marcella Papini (15 minutes including questions).

Questions from the audience are welcome throughout the whole event.

Light Lunch (see requested budget for catering) combined with Networking between students and staff (20 minutes)

Maths Art exhibition with Hands on activities with 4 stations will be organised by our RHD students and Staff throughout the room during the whole event.
