To celebrate May 12 – International Women in Mathematics Day, the Institute of Mathematics at the University of Würzburg is delighted to welcome Prof. Dr. Andrea Blunk, Professor of Mathematics and Gender Studies at the University of Hamburg. Prof. Blunk's interdisciplinary work connects mathematics, its disciplinary culture, and gender studies.
As part of her visit, we are pleased to host the following two events, open to students and researchers:

“Gender Aspects of Mathematics: History, Disciplinary Culture, Research Contents”
In this talk, Prof. Blunk will explore the role of women in mathematics—both historically and in the present day. She will address the question of whether mathematics can be considered a gendered discipline, and whether the idea of a "female mathematics" has any place. Drawing on her expertise in both mathematics and gender studies, she will examine the current disciplinary culture in mathematics and reflect on what it means to become a mathematician. The talk will also highlight best practice examples aimed at supporting and encouraging women to pursue research careers in the field.
