Description and practical details

It's Women in Mathematics Day! May 12 is a joyful opportunity for the mathematical community to celebrate women in mathematics. The celebration takes place every year, all around the world.

The day coincides with the birthday of Maryam Mirzakhani (1977-2017) who was an Iranian mathematician and a Professor of Mathematics at Stanford University. She was one of the world’s leading experts in geometry and dynamical systems. Her beautiful and astonishing results and her life and career are an inspiration for everyone, women and men, to pursue their dreams in science.

The goal of the day is to reflect on and inspire women everywhere to celebrate their achievements in mathematics, and to encourage an open, welcoming, and inclusive work environment for everybody. The 20-minute film entitled Journeys of Women in Mathematics provides a reflection of the work and challenges overcome by women in mathematics and the impact they have made in their communities. Please feel free to share and discuss with your colleagues, family, and friends. Together we can advocate and support women in mathematics every day!
