Celebrating women in mathematics for the first time at Kairouan, Tunisia

The Tunisian Women Mathematicians Association (TWMA), in collaboration with the Higher Institute of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science of Kairouan (ISMAIK), organized an event to celebrate women mathematicians on:

9:30 AM – 10:30 AM:

• Opening remarks by the Director of ISMAIK, Pr. Sami Aouaoui

• Speech by the President of TWMA Association, Pr. Selma Negzaoui
      Presentation of TWMA's activities and "May 12" Day

10:30 AM – 11:30 AM:

• Screening of the film "Journeys of Black Mathematicians: Forging Resilience"

11:30 AM – 1:30 PM:

• Discussions and Q&A with the audience

1:30 PM: Group Photo and closing session

Highlights from the Event:

The participating women and girls expressed their enthusiasm for the activities and emphasized the importance of such events in fostering connections and breaking the feeling of isolation that many face in the field. Several attendees shared their personal journeys, creating a space for mutual encouragement and solidarity.

The audience was diverse, including:

• First-year mathematics undergraduates

• Master’s and PhD students

• Faculty members of various ranks, including the Head of the Mathematics Department Dr. Manel Labidi Hamdi

The discussions were highly enriching, with participants engaging in meaningful exchanges about challenges, achievements, and strategies for supporting women in mathematics.
