Roundtable: Women in Science – Real Stories Behind the Numbers
March 12
In this roundtable, we bring together women from different backgrounds and generations, all of whom have navigated the various stages of a research career—bachelor’s, master’s, PhD, researcher-professor, and full professorship. At each stage, gender inequalities persist, often increasing at the higher levels. This is clearly illustrated by the well-known scissors chart or leaky pipeline seen in many countries, including in the latest Spanish report Women Scientists in Figures 2025.
While some progress has been made, the pace remains slow. Factors such as the glass ceiling, career interruptions due to motherhood or caregiving, and systemic biases continue to create obstacles.
This roundtable aims to go beyond the numbers by sharing real stories and diverse journeys. Through personal reflections and lived experiences, our speakers will bring context and voice to the data. The discussion is structured around key statistics that stood out to us across the academic path, serving as the starting point for a broader conversation.
