Sisterhood in Mathematics: Connecting, Empowering, Achieving

The International Women in Mathematics Day, celebrated annually on May 12th, honors the achievements and contributions of women in mathematics worldwide. This global initiative not only commemorates the birthday of the late Iranian mathematician Maryam Mirzakhani-the first woman to win the Fields Medal-but also serves as a platform to inspire, recognize, and connect women in the

Celebrating Women in Mathematics at IIIT Nagpur

Indian Institute of Information Technology Nagpur (India) is organising an International event in honour of Maryam Mirzakhani (May 12, 1977 – July 14, 2017), the first woman to win the Fields Medal for her outstanding contributions to “the dynamics and geometry of Riemann surfaces and their moduli spaces”. It will be an online event.

Program Details:

From Chalkboards to Boardrooms

Join the Canadian Mathematical Society's Waterloo Women in Mathematics Committee for a virtual panel highlighting the achievements of women in the mathematical sciences. Featuring panelists from both academia and industry, the first hour will be reserved for a panel discussion, and the remaining time will be used for a Q&A with the panelists in breakout rooms.

The panelists featured in this event are:

Ações da SBM para a Redução das Desigualdades de Gênero./SBM Actions to Reduce Gender Inequalities.

The event to celebrate May 12th is a live broadcast of a discussion group on SBM's Actions to Reduce Gender Inequalities. No registration is required; the live broadcast will be on SBM's YouTube channel, via the link: https://www.youtube.com/live/1WhIYjVsp74?si=C_rCpb1_vwePf25q

It will be available even after the event. The event was held on May 12th, but we had a problem registering on this website. I hope we can be part of it.

International Women in Mathematics Day in Gurugram

Maryam Mirzakhani, the first woman mathematician to win the Fields Medal, was born on 12th May 1977. She was an Iranian mathematician and a Professor of Mathematics at Stanford University. She received the Fields Medal in 2014 for her outstanding contribution to the dynamics and geometry of Riemann surfaces and their moduli spaces. She was one of the world’s leading experts in the field of geometry and dynamical systems. The whole world, particularly the world of Mathematics, was mourned on her sudden demise in 2017, only at the age of 40.

Kick-off of the Girl Ambassadors in Maths Initiative

On May 12th, the International Day of Women in Mathematics, we will launch the project “Girl Ambassadors for Mathematics” with a group of 50 selected secondary school girls. The goal is to share our passion for mathematics, highlight their significance in opening up future opportunities, and show how engaging and meaningful they can be—especially to younger students in primary school.
