The Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites the De La Salle University community to a special whole-day celebration of Women in Mathematics on May 13, 2026, at the De La Salle University Learning Commons. This event aims to honor the remarkable contributions of women mathematicians through inspiring films and interactive activities that highlight their achievements, perseverance, and impact on the mathematical sciences.
The film screening will feature Je suis Sophie Germain (I Am Sophie Germain), presented with English subtitles in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of Sophie Germain’s birth on April 1, 1776, as well as Secrets of the Surface: The Mathematical Vision of Maryam Mirzakhani, a documentary celebrating the life and mathematical brilliance of Fields Medalist Maryam Mirzakhani.
In addition to the screenings, participants may also enjoy interactive Kahoot! games based on materials developed by the Asian-Oceanian Women in Mathematics initiative, designed to further engage the community in learning about women mathematicians and their contributions to the field.
