The School of Mathematics and Statistics is hosting an in-person (and online) celebration for International Woman's Mathematics Day!

he 12th of May is the birthday of the extraordinary mathematician Maryam Mirzakhani, who in 2014 became the first woman and the first Iranian to be awarded a Fields Medal. Maryam died of cancer in 2017, at just 40 years of age. We will host a free screening of the documentary:

  • Alex Wright, University of Michigan.

We will simultaneously launch the Australian Women of Mathematics exhibit, an artistic and scientific project highlighting the mathematical lives and experiences of 16 female Australian mathematicians.

Morning Tea Provided.

There are limited spaces for the in-person event. Please cancel your registration if you are no longer able to attend. Students (of all genders) are particularly encouraged to attend.
