The Department of Technology and Entrepreneurship Education within the Faculty of Education at L-Università ta' Malta is proud to announce that it will be holding an online screening of the documentary "Picture a Scientist" free of charge on Thursday 13 May 2021 at 3pm. This was made possible through an agreement between the "May12 Initiative" and "Roco Films".
The documentary is 95 minutes long and it portrays three women scientists who lead viewers on a journey deep into their own experiences in the sciences, facing harassment, institutional discrimination, and years of subtle slights. Why May the 12th? This is the birth date of Maryam Mirzakhani, the first (and, so far, the only) woman and the first (and, so far, the only) Iranian to be honoured by mathematics’ highest prize, the Fields Medal. Mirzakhani tragically died in 2017 at the age of 40, and the May12 Initiative celebrates women in STEM. More on the May12 Initiative here: may12.womeninmaths.org.
