As part of "Celebrating Women in Mathematics in 2022" on May 12, the NUI Galway SIAM Chapter will host a talk on Zoom by
Prof Maeve McCarthy, Murray State University, on "Control of Mosquito Populations Through the Introduction of Sterile Mosquitoes". The talk describes how differential equations can be used to model of mosquito control, and introduces some optimal control theory. It is aimed at a general undergraduate audience.
Maeve is a graduate of NUI Galway. She earned her PhD from Rive University, and is now the Jesse D. Jones Endowed Professor of Mathematics at Murray State, Kentucky.
