Movie Screening 'Women In Science In Africa, A Silent Revolution'

May 12, the birthday of Maryam Mirzakhani, the first woman to be awarded a field medal is chosen to celebrate ‘Women in Mathematics’ worldwide.

On this occasion, the Department of Mathematics, Abeda Inamdar Senior College, Pune, India has organized a movie screening event. All are welcome to be a part of the event.

The event details are as under:

May 12 celebration at Utrecht University

May 12 was the birthday of Maryam Mirzakhani (1977 - 2017), an Iranian mathematician and professor at Stanford University. She worked on geometry and dynamical systems and in 2014 she was the first woman to win the FIelds medal (the “Nobel prize of mathematics”). In her memory, May 12 was chosen as a day to globally celebrate women in mathematics. 

The Mathematical Institute is therefore organising an event on May 12, 2022. Students, staff and other interested people are all very welcome!

The programme consists of two parts and will be as follows:

The School of Mathematics and Statistics is hosting an in-person (and online) celebration for International Woman's Mathematics Day!

he 12th of May is the birthday of the extraordinary mathematician Maryam Mirzakhani, who in 2014 became the first woman and the first Iranian to be awarded a Fields Medal. Maryam died of cancer in 2017, at just 40 years of age. We will host a free screening of the documentary:
