IV ENCONTRO DE MULHERES MATEMÁTICAS

Como parte das celebrações do 12 de maio de 2023, o POTIMÁTICAS vai organizar o IV Encontro de Mulheres Matemáticas, em parceria com o Departamento de Matemática da UFRN. O evento será realizado nos dias 11 e 12 de maio de 2023, nos turnos de tarde e noite.

Os objetivos são: dar visibilidade ao trabalho de mulheres matemáticas; estimular a presença feminina em carreiras de Matemática, Engenharia e Computação; capacitar os participantes de maneira técnica e discutir temas relacionados à igualdade de gênero. 

MSRI May 12 Workshop: Pathways in Mathematics

The Simons Laufer Mathematical Sciences Institute (SLMath), formerly MSRI, celebrates May 12 with a panel discussion and social event open to all on the topic "Pathways in Mathematics". This is a hybrid workshop taking place on Zoom and in person at SLMath and satellite institutions.

Women in Mathematics Day

``Women in Mathematics Day'' is observed annually on May 12th to mark the anniversary of the eminent female mathematician Maryam Mirzakhani's birth. She was an Iranian Mathematician and a Professor of Mathematics at Stanford University. She was one of the world’s leading experts in geometry and dynamical systems. In 2014, she was awarded the Fields Medal for her outstanding contributions to the dynamics and geometry of Riemann surfaces and their moduli spaces, becoming the first woman to be recognized for her mathematical achievements by this top mathematical prize.

Journée des comités parité / Gender equity comittees day

The CHL organizes, in partnership with the IRMAR gender equity commission, a day on gender issues in mathematics, on May 2nd from 10am to 4pm, in Rennes. The main objective of the day is to promote the exchange of experiences and practices between the members of the gender equality commissions/committees of the different laboratories. It will also be an opportunity to discuss the role and missions of these committees and any interested person in the member labs of the CHL is invited to participate in this exchange.
 

An Invitation to Mathematics: A series of lectures introducing various topics in Mathematics

The lecture series is for Undergraduate/Postgraduate students giving insights into various topics of mathematics to encourage the students to take up research and higher education in field of Mathematics. The talks will be expository, with efforts to connect the audience to  current trends and applications of the subject as well as  highlight the possible job opportunities in the field.  

The first event in this series in planned as part of Indian Women and Mathematics May 12 initiative. 

Women's Advancement in Mathematical Sciences: Building and Sustaining Mentoring Relationships

  • In line with the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development 2022, the event will cover the following topics:
    • The Importance of Building and Sustaining Mentoring Relationships for Women's Advancement in Mathematical Sciences and in addressing Gender Equality for Sustainable Development.
    • Funding and Scholarship Application Good Practice Strategies
    • Social Media campaign to raise awareness about the importance of addressing Gender Diversity and Inclusion in Mathematical Sciences.

From May 12th to 19th, classes of Institute I. C. Pra', from nursery school to middle school (3-14 years old) are invited to choose and play a math games and invent another one for sharing.
