On the occasion of the International Women in Mathematics Day, the Department of Mathematics G. Peano at the University of Turin and the Department of Mathematical Sciences G. Lagrangeopen_in_new at the Polytechnic University of Turin are organizing an event to raise awareness about the gender gap in STEM disciplines.
On this day, conferences are organized, where nationally renowned women mathematicians share their experiences, research and innovative projects, promoting academic exchange and collaboration.
A conference dedicated to Ada Lovelace, considered the first programmer in the history. This conference is included in the series "Tutti amano la Matematica", organized by Seminario Matematico di Brescia, an interuniversity research center between Università degli Studi di Brescia and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Brescia. The evening is moderated by Prof. Anita Pasotti, director of the center, and the speaker will be Eng. Leonardo Rizza.
EDAÍ is a Dynamical Systems seminar jointly organized by PUC-Rio, UFF and UFRJ since 2008. EDAÍ is generally held on Fridays, with one Matinee and two Lectures. The Matinees present classical Dynamical Systems results that have not yet found their place in the introductory course syllabus, while the Lectures generally address recent research topics.
In this occasion we celebrate May12 day.
The website https://may12.womeninmaths.org/ records events celebrating women in Mathematics from May 1st to June 15th. Why May 12th is the reference day? It is the birthday of Maryam Mirzakhani (1977-2017), the first woman to win the Fields Medal (in 2014). In this context, the tribute of the Mathematical Seminary of Brescia to one of the greatest women in math of the history, Maria Gaetana Agnesi (1718-1799), is a must. In her journey through languages, literature, philosophy, theology, science, and charity, the meeting with a mathematician from Brescia stands out.
The activities we have planned are:
- Inauguration of the new section of the Library entitled "Le Matematiche RacContate", dedicated to the biographies and scientific contributions of women in mathematics, written in various and contemporary styles such as graphic novels, and including works from the Comics&Science series.
On May 20th, 2025, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi will host the 5th International Women in Mathematics Day, a prestigious hybrid event organized by Dr. Lama Tarsissi, Associate Professor of Mathematics and ambassador for the Committee for Women in Mathematics (CWM) in Lebanon and the UAE. Held at the Marie-Curie Amphitheatre and accessible online, this celebration of women’s contributions to mathematics is free and open to the public, aligning with SUAD’s mission to promote inclusivity and innovation.
This is an event consisting of 6 mini-talks on the mathematical work of women mathematicians, given by professors from different universities in Madrid.
In person at the Miguel de Guzmán lecture hall and in streaming through the faculty's youtube channel.
This year we will have the pleasure of listening to the following speakers:
Fabricio Maciá (UPM) about the work of Nalini Anantharaman
María Ángeles Zurro ( UAM) about the work of Emma Previato
Laura Saavedra ( UPM) about the work of Macarena Gómez Mármol
