Movie projection

Pioneer, a support network aiming to nurture girls' passion for maths beyond school, is hosting a movie projection of "Secrets of the Surface: the Mathematical Vision of Maryam Mirzakhani" to celebrate Women In Maths day! The film details the story of the first and only woman to win the Fields Medal - the best award for Mathematics. To celebrate International Women in Mathematics Day. the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Glasgow will gather together virtually on Thursday, 14 May, at 4:00pm, to watch a screening of `Secrets of the Surface’, the new one-hour documentary about Maryam Mirzakhani that has been shared for a limited time with the organisers of the May 12 Initiative so that people can come together to watch it and celebrate Women in Maths in the current circumstances.

The screening will be followed by an interactive discussion session. The event will be made in remote mode using the Teams platform.

An event titled "Celebrating Women in Mathematics" will be organised by MPSTME, NMIMS Deemed to be University, Mumbai, India on Tuesday May 12, 2020 as an online session (on MS Teams) in which an Introductory talk on "Women in Mathematics" followed by the movie screening of "Secrets of Surface, the Mathematical Vision of Maryam Mirzakhani will be held from 3:00PM.

Maryam Mirzakhani se doctoró en la Universidad de Harvard y realizó contribuciones en las áreas de la geometría hiperbólica, simpléctica y compleja, la teoría ergódica y los sistemas dinámicos. Fue la primera y única mujer en haber ganado una Medalla Fields. Falleció a los 40 años a causa de un cáncer de seno, en el 2017.
